Her will strove with him for a while, but he put forth his power, and having learned who she was he constrained her to gaze into his eyes, and he laid a spell of utter darkness and forgetfulness upon her, so that she could remember nothing that had ever befallen her, nor her own name, nor the name of any other thing; and for many days she could neither hear, nor see, nor stir by her own will. Then Glaurung left her standing alone upon Amon Ethir, and went back to Nargothrond."

Glaurung is one of the archvillains of the Silmarillion, a fully sentient wingless dragon every bit as cunning, scheming, and malignant as Smaug and twice as evil. 

Here he is depicted in his encounter with Niënor/Niniel, gleefully launching his twisted plot for the downfall of the children of Hurin. I love how much emphasis Tolkien put on Glaurung's eyes, and I centered the whole composition of this around his baleful gaze, where all oh his tremendous malice is converging. 

Like its twin piece the Fall of Ancalagon this too is about light and darkness, but instead of that scene of explosive cosmic scale, this is enfolding and almost intimate, as Glaurung's spell cuts Nienor off the from light, into the darkness of oblivion. 

Like The Fall of Ancalagon, it comes in a custom made shipping crate that can double as a display frame.
