Moonbeam

In spirit, this is a companion piece to the Kelpie and Unicorn. Two alien worlds meeting at the surface of the water, both bound and separated by the interplay of light and darkness.

The sea and the dragon share something of the same nature. Both are in equal parts marvellous, vast, and terribly dangerous, something we love and fear in turn, something that can give us wings, or swallow us whole. Sea dragons have existed on almost every mythology, sometimes benevolent, sometimes deadly. 

I wanted my sea dragon to represent all of this, and also something more personal, the "depth of dreaming" (and work) behind every work of art. What the public sees is always only the tip of the iceberg.

Moonbeam IV is the name of the yacht that inspired the elegant and ethereal sailing boat on the surface of the sea, and her name gave a fitting title to the piece. 

Entirely hand carved from an upcycled plank with exquisite grain, painted with plain and metallic acrylics for that special depth of colour, and finished with carnauba and metallic wax.
