A little mirror with a lovely gothic-style carved frame that has gone through some misadventures before Fauno picked it up in a flea market. It must have been burned by a candle flame among other things, but all its hurts have been healed, and it got a new paint job, natural vines from our woods, upcycled leather, hand painted ivy leaves, and a moth carved in walnut wood. This moth is the box wood moth, a pretty catastrophic introduced species in Europe, but innocent and harmless in its native Asian habitats.
A reminder of how often noxious species are just noxious because we accidentally transplaned them away from their own ecosystems. Can nature adjust around these new species, find a new balance? We can only hope, but the only way is forward. We cannot put the the genie back in the lamp.
A fairytale piece with a symbolism of memory, passage, and metamorphosis and some big ecological thoughts woven in.
About 55x35 cm including ivy leaves.
