Elwë's device - reserved for R. C.

Elwë's "Winged Moon" device as sketched by Tolkien, here handcarved on a small heavy vintage mahogany door, and hand painted in white, silver and pale gold, the moonlit, nightly colors of Elu Thingol, who abandoned his people enchanted by the voice of Melian as she sang with the nightingales. Together they eventually ruled the kingdom of Doriath, fenced and hidden by a veil of enchantments.

There is something darkling and nightly in Elwë's device, that contrasts with the sunny emblem of his brother Finwë, and the vibrant colours of his daughter, Luthien. It makes a beautiful contrast with the other elven devices, and it sets it apart. Elu Thingol or  Elwë Singollo has stars and a grey mantle, in his name, so his device seems especially apt. 

This is a thick heavy door in solid mahogany wood, with a rich color and grain that complement the cool colors of the device beautifully.

Hang preferably where changeful light can play on the matte vs metallic details and bring the piece to life. 

Carnauba wax and metallic wax finish.
