Lùthien's Treasure Box
Lùthien's Treasure Box
"And her song released the sudden spring,
Like rising lark, and falling rain,
And melting water bubbling."
J.R.R. Tolkien
This heav antique oak box had an ugly carving in its round central panel that spoiled the beauty of its outer leafy scrolls. Hey presto, we chiselled off the offending carving and replaced it with the heraldic device of Lùthien Tinuviel, which has adorned many editions of the Silmarillion since its first publishing in 1977.
The original was painted in watercolor by J. R. R. Tolkien, and we reproduced it here in metallic acrylics on a carved walnut wood disk. The contrast between the dark oak and the brilliant spring colors of the painted carving really takes this piece to a different level!
A tiny black sunstone forms the center of the painted device and leaf green glass cabochons accent the carvings on the sides.
