The Sign of the Prancing Pony

"The door was open and light streamed out of it. Above the arch was a lamp, and beneath it swung a large signboard: a fat white pony reared up on its hind legs. Over the door was painted in white letters: THE PRANCING PONY by BARLIMAN BUTTERBUR."

 Fauno's attempt at recreating a book-accurate Prancing Pony sign. We liked the fact that the pony was isolated on the signboard, while the name was painted over the doorway.

We could not provide a wall, door or doorway, since buildings are hard to make and harder to ship, but we did our best to produce a little lintel covered in handmade ivy creepers, for that touch of old world charm that we all love.

The sign is a vintage piece of cherry wood, completely hand carved to create the pony motif in relief, over a moss green background. The lintel is pine, carved to imitate a worn, weathered texture, with the letters simply painted, as per Tolkien's description. The ivy leaves are completely hand made from upcycled leather, and mounted of twisty creepers stems. 

Finished with carnauba wax and metallic wax. All hanging chains provided, with some extra for adjustments. 

The two pieces can be hung together for a striking, large statement piece of approximately 66 x 115 cm, or they can be hung separately to recreate the original set up described in the book.
