Bears have been depicted by many cultures in every corner of the world for thousand of years. They held a special significance in most folkloric traditions, and have been considered sacred spirits, ancestors, and divinities in many cultures. They represent power, strength and fighting prowess, but also protection and healing.

In both European and Native American Shamanic traditions, the Bear symbolizes the awakening of the force of the unconscious. The strength of bear medicine is the power to restore harmony and balance. The Bear Spirit is known to many cultures as the Great Healer.

Here is a hand carved and hand painted Bear, that incorporates in its mood both strencth and gentleness.  It's surrounded by a glowing opalite moon cycle and its own constellation, Ursa Major.

Five tails made from streaming, iridescent rooster and cayuga feathers, hand painted wooden beads and bronze bells give the piece a sense of movement and whimsy.

Hang it by a window so the side light can fire up the opal stones and play on the metallic paints and waxes!
